New workplace pact aims to improve compliance

The Department of State of South Australia is working with the Fair Work Ombudsman and has signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding, or MoU with them. This Memorandum is intended to provide workplace compliance for vulnerable apprentices and trainees. An audit of 800 businesses found that a third were not paying apprentices correctly. Because they are a significant part of the workforce they should receive the necessary support to complete their training. Across Australia there are more than 300,000 apprentices and trainees.
