Businesses struggling to understand the Fair Work Act

Businesses struggling to understand the Fair Work Act

December 7, 2017 By James L Leave a Comment

Recent data from the Employsure Workplace Index indicates just a third of Australian employers believe they are in compliance with the Fair Work Act. Worse, one in five report they don’t know anything about the Act. Nearly ninety percent of small businesses don’t understand all the requirements of them under Fair Work, which explains how over half of them lose dismissal cases brought under the Act. Many small business owners are looking for the government to support them more, so they don’t feel so threatened by the Act.

Key Takeaways:

  • Nearly ninety percent of small businesses are unaware of all their responsibilities under the Fair Work Act.
  • About twenty five percent of small businesses have trouble figuring the right amount of pay and other benefits.
  • Many small business owners see Fair Work as governmental red tape run awry that is adding cost to their operations.

“The latest Employsure Workplace Index research shows that only one of three employers are confident that they are compliant with the Fair Work Act. The research also revealed that 20 per cent admit they have little to no knowledge about the Act.”
