Time wasters are a fact of any business, but it is difficult to distinguish between someone who is wasting time and one who is truly interested in doing business. The author pondered this, and asked a few probing questions of a couple who he had given a free consultation, doing so in order to find out their level of interest. Once they declared “they needed to think about it,” he gave them general guidance and saw them off. Not long after, they sent him an e-mail realizing the value of his time and realized they needed to do the same with their business. He concludes that business owners need to have a full sales pipeline so that every scenario can be played out and fall to the proper conclusion swiftly, wasting as little time as possible.
