How small businesses are getting savvy with freelance legal advice

How small businesses are getting savvy with freelance legal advice

April 21, 2019 By James L Leave a Comment

According to an Intuit study, by the year 2020, 40 percent of employed Americans will be independent contractors. In Australia, 70 percent of all businesses currently use freelancers. What hasn’t changed in the global business landscape is organizations’ needs for sound legal advice. An emerging trend is that more companies are hiring freelance legal professionals rather than having full-time attorneys on their payrolls. Many small businesses are hiring legal talent on a project or task basis for things like drafting one document or assisting with a single contract dispute. In this way, budget-conscious companies can control costs and still get the legal support that they need. Experts only see this trend growing as organizations and professionals continue to embrace the global freelance economy.

Key Takeaways:

  • Data suggests that by 2020 more than a third of Americans will be working as independent contractors.
  • Also, a Pay Pal study, with data about Australia, shows that nearly two thirds of that country’s businesses make use of freelancers.
  • Using freelancers in certain key areas of a business allows the business to upscale when needed relatively quickly.
