A recent compliance and education campaign, instituted by the Fair Work Ombudsman, aimed at the Southern Act region has concluded. Inspectors were sent to review this region due to spikes in aid requests from young workers in the area.
More than fifty companies from five townships were audited. The office was in part moved to quick action because of the naivete and vulnerability inherent to many younger workers.
Unfortunately. A third of those audited businesses were not fulfilling their duties to their workers in the correct manner. Formal cautions were issued and nearly thirty thousand in lost wages was recouped on behalf of the workers.
Key Takeaways:
- The Fair Work Ombudsman found that 69 percent of businesses are compliant with regulations.
- The organization initiated the campaign after a large amount of requests received by young workers.
- The organization found that nearly a third of the businesses operating were not following guidelines.
“The campaign found 79 per cent of those businesses to be compliant with pay slip and record keeping requirements, while 83 per cent were paying their employees correctly.”
