Since the global economic crisis of 2008, banks have been particularly harsh with terms and treatment offered to small businesses. A new Ombudsman, Kate Carnell, is hoping to effect changes in the situation. She points to previous investigations she’s been a part of that revealed harmful practices banks subjected small businesses to. Even in cases where loans repayments were up to date, banks have called the loans in from small businesses. This has seriously harmed most of those businesses, causing closures and job losses.
