Australian chocolate habits on the rise

April 30, 2017 By James L Leave a Comment

Australians are eating more chocolate on a regular basis than ever before. Roughly 68.4% of Australians over fourteen years old, ate some form of chocolate within a four week period. The most popular type of chocolate was in bar form. Part of this is the culture of giving chocolate as gifts. It is seen not only as a thing, but as an experience. Most of the growth is in premium chocolate. Cadbury is the market leader.

Key Takeaways:

  • The percentage of Australians who have started to consume chocolate into their diets has really increase from 2013-2014
  • Customers have made a big impact on Ferrero Rocher and Lindt balls, hence the customers have been eating the same brand of chocolate for the past 4 weeks
  • Not everyone buys a box for themselves, some of them buy it as a present or gift to a family member or friend

“In today’s retail landscape, with its gradual shift away from buying ‘things’ in favour of experiences, boxed chocolate offers the best of both worlds.”
