Aus Post seeks to hike price of stamps to 70 cents – Dynamic Business

April 24, 2017 By James L Leave a Comment

Australia Post is planning on raising the price of stamps. The basic postage rate is currently set at 60 cents and Australia Post would like to increase it to 70 cents. The Managing Director says that this is to keep up with the actual cost of delivering letters, as the current price has not been adjusted to inflation. There will be a discounted rate for people with a Commonwealth Government concession card. The organization states that they are reluctant to raise the price, but must do so in order to continue operations.

Key Takeaways:

  • In 2014, Australia announced its intent to raise the basic postage rater from 60 cents per letter to 70 cents.
  • Aware that such a hike would negatively impact struggling segments of society, a concession was implemented also to keep the lower rate for qualifying individuals, through 2017.
  • Qualifying individuals needed a valid Commonwealth Government concession card to go on paying the prior rate.

“Ahmed Fahour, Managing Director & CEO of Australia Post said in a statement that the current stamp price no longer reflects the true cost of delivering each letter.”
