A study determined that an increasing number of Australian shoppers are changing their decision-making process to incorporate rising healthy food trends. For example, more than half of Australians used nutritional information to determine their product choices and 53% had a plan to change part of their diet. This cultural shift was affected by lifestyle trends that now encompass both physical and emotional health. However, as a whole, Australians and New Zealanders are increasing in obesity rates despite the changing trends.
- Consumers are starting to eat and buy healthier foods than before
- People that are wanting to eat healthier also want to know what is in the food they are buying and how it is made
- Despite the shift towards healthier eating there is still a growth in obesity due to the accessibility of sugar and sweeteners
“Consumers are expanding their eating habits to include healthier options and brands are taking advantage of these opportunities to capitalise on growth within the category”
